Joan Shelley “Like The River Loves The Sea” is out now!

Joan Shelley’s new album Like The River Loves The Sea is out now! It’s her 5th solo record (or her 7th or 10th depending on what publication you read about it in), and some are saying it’s her best. We can’t argue that point. It’s a fantastic record, recorded at the end of last summer and held and perfected so it would be ready for this changing season. You can order it now in the No Quarter shop, your preferred online retailer or the best choice: your local record shop. Both the LP and CD are lovingly packaged with art by San Francisco painter Kevin Earl Taylor (look up his stuff, follow him on instagram) and a poem by acclaimed novelist Max Porter. Digital albums and streaming audio are also available (just leave it on repeat as you go to sleep, so it racks up those pennies – they all add up).

Joan will be touring the US for the entire fall, and is making plans for Europe in 2020. If you like the record, come out to a show and say hi!

Q:  “Beautiful and inscrutable, it runs very deep” / ★★★★

Mojo: “Shelley’s voice [is] effortless and unaffected, like the very best in folk music, but also warmly felt, as if profound messages and meanings are being dredged up from her marrow.” / ★★★★

Uncut: “Spellbinding… exquisite… [she] examines the necessity of finding something of beauty in the most testing circumstances” / 9/10

Record Collector: “Awash with elements that evoke a mythic, even mystic, American South rarely conveyed so eloquently since Bobby Gentry’s late 60’s purple patch.” / ★★★★
